I'm trying to gauge interest in something less about fandoms and shows and more about the attendees and their (potential) dreams.

Would there be interest in something like this:

Artist Alley Table 101.

For anyone who's ever wanted to sell their art.  Work that artist alley table and succeed in the three core areas of any Artist Alley experience: make money, make friends, and make a splash!  Sarah Martinez and Kevin Bolk of Interrobang Studios have spent years ironing out the kinks of a successful convention appearance.  Let Sarah help you construct a concrete game plan for your artist alley table at this con or the next one.  Get a helping hand with the numbers: expenses, costs, and sales goals. You'll be walked through pre-con planning, inventory considerations, displays, salesmanship, and artist alley etiquette.  A must-see panel for any budding artist.

Kevin and I have put together checklists, simple guides, and other physical memory aids for convention prep and execution.   When you're tired, hungry, and going to your third (or first!) convention in as many weekends, you want to know that you've got your ducks in a row.   I'd love to share copies of our materials, the things we've learned at cons (both anime and non), and help other budding artists avoid learning unpleasant things the hard/expensive way.

That would be a great panel to have!  I think a lot of people want to get an artists' table without fully understanding exactly how much money and time goes into it, and how it IS running a mini-business.  You can really learn a lot!  I've really learned a lot from just running the alley and my artist friends.

An educational panel like this would also fit perfectly into Kurokiiro... ::coughhintcough::

I'm currently trying to flesh out our budget for this year's cons.  I checked out the Kurokiiro and didn't find much info about table price or badge cost.  I'll definitely be keeping an eye on that site though.  From the dates on it, y'all had just finished up your last con in early October!  Gotta give y'all some recovery time.  Wink

I am interested, of course!

I think that this is a great idea - I know that potential sellers always wonder about the mechanics and difficulties of Artist Alley tables, and even selling art in a wider spectrum.  It seems you have this well planned with a basic outline of what to discuss.  I would definitely attend. Smiley

I've officially applied to teach this workshop.  If you want to talk about concrete steps towards a fruitful Artist Alley experience, I'd love to see you there.

*Fingers crossed that the panel-gods approve!*

Good luck! I had actually thought about this sort of panel recently, but lack the time. I'll try to pop in though, these panels are wonderful for people starting out.

Absolutely, that is an educational panel, and a lot of people will be going to attend on workshop. And they could make money through their art, make friends and make a splash. This is their opportunity to be recognized on their capability in the field of art.

I'm so sorry we were not able to make this workshop happen at this year's Tekkoshocon.  There was a death in the family and while I was able to alert the convention, I'm not sure that there was enough time to find a stand in.

We did send our studio artist though, and he had an amazing time with you all in the Artist Alley and in the comics art panel that he ran.

I guess we'll try it again next year, because from what he tells me, Tekkoshocon is an amazing-must-return-to-kinda show.  Smiley
